Shelter - The Process

Step 01 - Prepping the base The base is made of scrap wood that was actually found at a bin in UCSI itself. I sanded the base to ensure a smooth surface, but I did not go overboard with the sandpaper as I still wanted to remain its rusticity. The fragmented wood pieces were set on the base with wood glue. It is to support the womb and chest later on.

Step 02 - Layers and layers of wood

Like the base, these different types of wood were also found scattered around UCSI and also my housing area. I had quite a bit of difficulty here as some of the scrap wood were very sturdy and could not be cut into a curve so easily. I used a jigsaw cutter for this segment. The woods were layer nailed down together forming a crater-like structure.

Step 03- Wrap it up The egg was prepped by two coats of paper mache to cover the supermarket stamping and also to ensure it survives the slightest nudge or nick. It is wrapped in wire.

Step 04- Tie it together The egg is then strung into the centre of the womb by a web of strings.

Step 05 - Putting broken pieces together Fragments of plastic and CDs were hand broken and secured into place (all pointing towards the womb and chest)
